Manage Planning Data

Planning data entered for a Wave / Process Area / Object are used to derive metrics and indicators related to milestone and design / mapping and build status that are displayed on Migration Dashboards in the Knowledge Tier.

The following planning-related data is important for each Object:

  • Planning Group
  • Design Start Date
  • Design Completion Due Date
  • Map Start Date
  • Map Completion Due Date
  • Build Start Date
  • Build Completion Due Date

A Wave / Process Area / Object Planning Data can be maintained in the following way:

  • Wave—Click the Planning Data icon on the Waves page to maintain all Objects in the selected Wave.
  • Process Area—Click the Planning Data icon on the Wave : Process Areas page to maintain all Objects in the selected Wave / Process Area.
  • Object—Access the Vertical View for the object on the Process Area : Object page, then click the Planning Group Data tab to maintain a single object

Manage planning data from the Wave Process Area Object Planning Data page

Planning data can either be manually updated or mass updated using Excel Integration. Refer to Use Excel Integration Overview for more information.

To update an object’s planning group data from the Wave Process Area Object Planning Data page in Console:

  1. Click Waves in the Navigation pane.
  2. Click the Planning Data icon for a wave.
  3. Click Edit.

  4. Enter a number in the PRIORITY text box to indicate the order in which the planning data is processed.
  5. Click the PLANNING GROUP list box to select a planning group for the wave.
  6. Click Import Defaults toolbar button to get dates from the selected Planning Group.

    Or

    Click the DESIGN START DATE calendar to select the date by which target design for the project should begin.

  7. Click the DESIGN COMPLETION DUE DATE calendar to select the date by which target design for the project should be complete.
  8. Click the MAP START DATE calendar to select the date by which mapping for the project should begin.
  9. Click the MAP COMPLETION DUE DATE calendar to select the date by which mapping for the project should be complete.
  10. Click the BUILD START DATE calendar to select the date by which building for the project should begin.
  11. Click the BUILD COMPLETION DUE DATE calendar to select the date by which building for the project should be complete.
  12. Click Save.

To take an Object out of scope for Migration, click the Activate / Deactivate button. Clicking this button sets the design status of all natural targets linked to the Object to Inactive.

To indicate that the Design of an Object is complete, click the Set Design Finished button. Clicking this button sets the design status of all natural targets linked to the Object as ‘Design Finished’.

NOTE: This is an important step because if an Object Design Completion Due Date has passed, all natural Target Tables need to be in design status ‘Design Finished’ or ‘Design Complete.’ If they are not, they will display as being ‘Overdue’ on the dashboards.

Manage planning data from the Process Area : Object page’s Vertical View

To update an object’s planning group data from the Process Area : Object page in Console:

  1. Click Waves in the Navigation pane.
  2. Click the Process Areas icon for a wave.
  3. Click the Objects icon for a process area.
  4. Click Vertical View for an object.
  5. Click the Planning Group Data tab.
  6. Click Edit.

  7. Select a planning group from the Planning Group list box..

    NOTE: The object's planning dates are inherited from the selected Planning Group.

    NOTE: If Planning Dates need to be refined to provide a more detailed plan, then they can by doing the following.

  8. Click the Design Start Date calendar to select the date by which target design for the project should begin.
  9. Click the Design Completion Due Date calendar to select the date by which target design for the project should be complete.
  10. Click the Map Start Date calendar to select the date by which mapping for the project should begin.
  11. Click the Map Completion Due Date calendar to select the date by which mapping for the project should be complete.
  12. Click the Build Start Date calendar to select the date by which building for the project should begin.
  13. Click the Build Completion Due Date calendar to select the date by which building for the project should be complete.
  14. Click Save.
