Promote

Compare Code Across Environments

Based on filters defined for the package, Promote builds a record set in the host and in the destination systems, then displays the differences and similarities. A comparison can be run for an individual package or for an entire package group. Comparing code across environments allows users to decide what data and SQL objects, if any, are transported to the destination server. There may be several changes, but only a few may actually need to be transported. For example, maybe only the changes related to a specific defect need to be transported at this time. Users can pick and choose what is added to the queue to be transported.

NOTE: Comparing code across environments considers the case sensitivity of data.

To compare code for a package group:

  1. Select Packages on the Navigation pane.

  2. Select a package group or use multi-row select to highlight multiple package groups.

  3. Click the Compare Packages icon on the Page toolbar; packages are compared in the order determined by the priority.

NOTE: Once the compare process has finished running, the DATA (number of objects marked to be sent) and SQL OBJECTS (total number of objects) fields on the Packages page are populated.

  1. View logs to see if any additional action needs to be taken.
