Data Source Column Encryption

To access this page:

  1. Select Admin > Data Sourcesin the Navigation pane.

  2. Click the Encryption icon.

Description

Reset

Click to reset the ENCRYPTION STATE in the following scenarios:

  • A column has data in a mixed state (both encrypted and unencrypted), and the ENCRYPTION STATE is Not Encrypted

  • The ENCRYPTION STATE is Encrypting or Decrypting

NOTE: This button is inactive if the selected table does not meet these requirements.

TABLE NAME

Displays the name of the table that contains the column where the data will be encrypted.

COLUMN NAME

Displays the column name within the TABLE NAME. This is the column that is either required or suggested for encryption.

KEY ID

Displays the name of the encryption key, as defined on the Encryption Keys page.

STATUS

Displays an icon to symbolize the encryption state of the column. Options are:

  • Green circle – Encryption is required (ENCRYPTION REQUIRED is checked) and encryption is enabled (ENCRYPTION STATE is “Encrypted”).
  • Yellow triangle – Encryption is not required (ENCRYPTION REQUIRED is not checked) and the column is not encrypted (ENCRYPTION STATE is “NotEncrypted”).
  • Red circle with slash – Encryption is required (ENCRYPTION REQUIRED is checked), but the column is not encrypted (ENCRYPTION STATE is “NotEncrypted”).
  • Warning icon - Encryption is in a mixed state for this column. Refer to Resolve Columns with Data in a Mixed State of Encryption for more information.

ENCRYPTION STATE

Displays the current state of the encrypted column. Options are:

  • Decrypting – the column is in the process of being decrypted
  • Encrypted – the column is encrypted
  • Encrypting – the column is in the process of being encrypted
  • NotEncrypted – the column is not encrypted

ENCRYPTION REQUIRED

If enabled, encryption for the column is required. If the column is not encrypted, daily emails are sent to Security and Data Source Administrators, suggesting that the column should be encrypted.

If disabled, encryption for the column is not required.

When a new column is added for encryption (on the Data Source Column Encryption page), the ENCRYPTION REQUIRED check box is enabled by default. Disable encryption from the Data Source Column Encryption page.

SYSTEM PROVIDED

If checked, this content is installed with the Stewardship Tier and cannot be edited.

If unchecked, the content was added by a user or process.

NOTE: This is a display-only check box. It cannot be updated.

NOT ENCRYPTED COUNT

Displays the number of columns in the table that are not encrypted.

TOTAL COUNT

Displays the total number of columns in the table.

NOTE: If this value and the value in the NOT ENCRYPTED COUNT are not equal, data in the column is in a mixed state of encrypted and decrypted. Refer to Resolve Columns with Data in a Mixed State of Encryption for more information.

ENCRYPTION

Click to enable or disable encryption for the column. If enabled, the button reads “Disabled.” If disabled, the button reads “Enable.”
